Business Development Plan For Dummies

Intro

Every company need to find proper structure and framework to get started with. whether you are new to this or an expert, this Business development plan guide will help you stand up on your feet and set you up to get started.
The plan kind of include 8 components that you need to be focusing on. It’s really simple and pretty much like a no brainer.

1 Mission Statement and Background

Make sure that you understand the fundamentals of your company. Know their mission and vision, and in case your company doesn’t have one, go to your CEO and ask. Because you also need to understand and you also need to be that involved.

2 Team

What exactly is your team setup?
Are you having a couple of lead generator or are you having an inside sales person to support you.
So get the team sorted. My recommended if you are just getting started, always start with one or two people in the lead gens part so they could support you. But if you are being more aggressive you can have a bigger team.

3 Target Market

Really nail down on which geography you wanna go for. To make it easy, pick primary geographies and secondaries geographies.
Primary is just you know all your efforts would go there, and incase you are not getting results in that geography, pick the next geography.
In the Target Market strategies, also include buyer persona, that means who your ideal person/clients that you would be targeting.
Make it simple, you do not need to make it super elaborated, but have these definitions in place.

4 Tools, Software and Resources

Keep a note of what lead generation tools you are using. what is the CRM that you are going to be using, and post a response who is going to be taking care. And collect all the resources that you have or that resources that you would need help needs to be included under this tab.

5 Positioning

How are you being positioned in the market.
Its just not about taking a product and merrily selling understand where your positioning and how you are different. and if you don’t ask your boss. They need to have an answer to this.

6 Marketing Strategy

You might not be involved in Marketing Strategy, but also do understand what happening in terms of Social Media Plan or the PPC Plan, and what kinds of leads are they generating if you are having Marketing Team.

If you don’t have a Marketing Strategy, you can skip these!

7 Prospecting Strategy

Include all the elements that you want to use whether you want to do you semi personalised email, mass emails. LinkedIn touch point, Twitter strategy.
Put as much possible, and have this really really flexible. because Prospecting strategy that is something you would have to review week on week.
In truth, we just cant stick to one strategy and seek that we get all the results from that.

8 Goals

Make Very precious goals to make it easy, have goals like First three months if you getting started it would be something like
  1. generating 10 positive responses,
  2. 15 calls in a week
  3. 20 email of prospecting clients
Make very simplistic goals for the first three months and then after post three months start setting up revenue goals

9 Action Plan

Strategy having a great documented place is really wonderful but that’s not backed with action plan, it would not make any sense.
So have a proper action plan in place with all the Resources, Tools, and the Team that you are setting up, and how would you be going from the word go.

10 Budget

Learn and ask your management how much they are looking to spend. you could also work the other way around, and make an analysis on how much budget you would need and then go to the management.
After which you can see if that is workable.  In most cases people would just work out in a way and hit the middle ground
